Harvests Happen
Animated oil pastel drawing (2025), scanned plants, paper insects and fish from Drawing the Hours, and 19-TET synth music
ive stopped paying attention to seasons and started imagining them instead. what are you going to do in a room like this. after all harvests happen practically all year. it's still 2020. there is no reasons to seasons.
A goblin drawn in oil pastel sits on a stool in a green room. It breathes, rubs its face, stretches its legs, and reaches into the leaves of a plant that grows out of a rock beside it. The plant is a scan of one plucked by the artist, turned upright. The oil pastel strokes of the room are redrawn eight times a second, and paper insects, then a school of paper fish, pass through; they come from the artist's game Drawing the Hours. The scene is drawn live in the browser, and the picture and the music loop together every 15 seconds.
The music is dungeon synth and comfy synth in 19-tone equal temperament: a phrase in 7/8 at 56 beats per minute, with a bass line, frame drum, tambourine, and a field recording of birds and wind in an autumn field.
